Fulfil’s Vitamin and Protein Bar is a low-calorie option fortified with vitamins and delivers all the protein you need…

Some of the best protein bars on test, Fulfil Vitamin and Protein Bars have a protein blend of calcium caseinate, collagen hydrolysate and whey protein isolate. The protein bars contain soy, like a few others on test, which might not be everyone’s preference. There are 11 different flavours, including a couple of lower-calorie options, although nothing that’s suitable for vegans.

How we test the best protein bars

Registered nutritionist (AFN) and sports nutritionist (SENr) Rob Hobson only tested chocolate-flavoured bars to provide consistency in his reviews. He judged them on their taste, texture and nutritional effectiveness, as well as cost and availability, and the amount of polyols – a type of sweetener which can upset the gut in high amounts.

Fulfil Vitamin and Protein Bar benefits

The protein benchmark of the best protein bars is around 20g per serving, and that’s exactly what each Fulfil bar delivers. It’s enough to make it an effective post-workout protein bar option or just to supply you with a source of protein during the day between meals. Each bar contains around half the calories (120kcal) of other bars in the category, though, and fewer carbohydrates (15g), making it a good option if you want high protein without the added energy.

Fulfil bars are low in sugar, with just 1.9g per serving, and contain 13g of polyols, which is lower than any other bars in this review.

Flavour and texture

We tested the chocolate hazelnut whip flavour, which is milk chocolate covered with caramel and has a nice hazelnut flavour that doesn’t taste synthetic. The texture is a little too chewy, though, and lacks the rich taste and texture of some other bars. However, it doesn’t taste too sweet, surprisingly, considering it’s chocolate and caramel.

The bar is fortified with vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and E, as well as folic acid. These nutrients act as antioxidants and are involved in the conversion of food into energy as well as maintaining a healthy nervous system, so are an added bonus.

Fulfil bars are reasonably priced but are on the small side at 55g. Still, they pack in the right amount of protein while shaving off the calories, and bring added vitamins to the party. If you can get past the chewiness Fulfil bars are well worth tucking in your gym bag. Remember, they’re not vegan-friendly though – so you’ll have to look elsewhere for the best vegan protein bars.
