Crazy Nutrition’s 100% Tri Protein has 21g of natural, non-GMO protein in every 30g serving. Its 90.6% protein blend is a mix of whey protein isolate and concentrate, micellar casein, milk protein concentrate, calcium caseinate and hydrolised whey.

It’s low in fat and sugars (at 0.9g and 1.5g per serving respectively), has digestive enzymes, is sweetened with sucralose and is suitable for vegetarians. Its six protein sources are designed to be released in three stages, promoting more effective muscle building, repair and recovery than single whey formulas.

Whether it does so is hard to say, though a month of regular use after moderate and intense workout sessions yielded noticeable results in terms of next-day recovery. Given that Crazy Nutrition uses six different protein sources, its ingredients list is reassuringly minimal.

A 30g serving of the shake contains just 111 calories when mixed with water (recommended 200-300ml). Each of the three flavours – chocolate, vanilla and salted caramel – contain less than 1g of fats and around 2g of carbs.

The shake mixes well with water to give a nice smooth texture, though it’s a little trickier to gain that consistency in milk. Each of the three flavours tastes pleasant and moreish, with no bitter aftertaste. The salted caramel does taste a little overpowering, and is better if diluted with around 400ml water. While other brands offer a wider variety of flavours, we think three delicious ones is more than enough.

Each serving works out at £1.67, which is on par with most of the powders on test. There’s also subscription service available which offers a useful 30% discount. You can only get Crazy Nutrition shakes online, and in 1kg tubs or pouches, but the subscription service will automate delivery based on your weekly consumption.

Overall, this is one of the best-tasting shakes on test with simple, quality ingredients and a lovely smooth texture. It’s lower in calories than most on test and works out fairly good value, especially if you buy with a subscription.
