Our reviewers tested each pair of running shorts over a wide range of distances – from 5km to half-marathon – and during treadmill and outdoor training sessions as well as competitive events, to bring you the best of the best.
These longer inseam options are thankfully a little cheaper than the Satisfy Rippy 3-inch shorts but £170 is still eye-wateringly expensive for a pair of running shorts.
Satisfy TechSilk 5-inch Short design
So what makes them special? Well, at just 120g, they’re extraordinarily lightweight for a 5-inch short and therefore well suited to hotter weather runs. The weight saving is largely down to the use of a strong but soft technical two-way stretch silk fabric.
Other premium touches include bonded seams and thin and silky internal boxer-style briefs with a longer leg – more like a hybrid trail short. They’re wonderfully comfortable with zero chafe risk and excellent support.
Satisfy TechSilk 5-inch Short features
Storage is top-notch, too, with an impressive array of four pockets. That includes two hand pockets (more for style than for stashing stuff), one interior, sweatproof rear smartphone pocket and another sweatproof zippered rear pocket.
The zippered pocket will also take a larger smartphone or a few gels and features two additional inner compartments to stash keys separate from delicate screens or sticky gels. Alternatively you can use the mini carabiner hook to stow keys – or smaller headphone cases with hooks – safely in the waistband.
The cut and comfort are also first-class. There’s a classic drawstring waistband, so you can flex the fit easily, while an internal band that’s wider and flatter than the main cinched waistband sits against the skin, eliminating cutting in, rolling up and any unwanted pressure.
The Satisfy TechSilk 5-inch shorts come in five sizes from XS to XL with two colours to choose from – though fortunately not the bold leopard print of its 3-inch sibling.
